The Big Summer Program Finale Showcase!

Essential questions during Week Six:
St. Ann's: What does your family/community/part of the world do for fun?
Ross: What is the role of arts in 'My Family, My Community, My World'?

It's the final week of Summer Program 2016, and we saved the best for last! This week, St. Ann's students focused on the Opinion section of the newspaper.  Students practiced writing persuasively - their arguments are very convincing!
Students met with Executive Director Brandy Fenderson and gave their opinions on what they liked most about ENHE - field trips, family engagement, and waterplay - and what they liked least - lunch, students with bad behavior, and people who use mean words. The final week of the program also included post-assessment of each student's progress.  Stay tuned for our final program report including assessment results!

All week, students worked on their finale showcase performances and presentations.  The showcase featured students from each location (Ross and St. Ann's). Students performed their "I Am From" poetry with Emily Joy and performed songs with Eric Dozier Music and Education. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders from St. Ann's also performed a STEP routine. A special thank you to Eric Dozier Music & Education, Emily Joy, iStepKidz and Claude Bain for sharing your talents and working with the students!

The highlight of the program was the presentation of the student newspaper. Treyvon Fryer, Shelia Bateman and Leiah Holland read their articles from the "Business Section" about the Lemonade Stand project. ENHE students voted to donate the business profits to a non-profit of their choice. At the end of the showcase finale, students presented a check for $383 to Monroe Harding, a non-profit that supports foster kids.

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders ended the week with a field trip to the Ford Ice Center. Most of the kids had never skated before and were a little nervous, but they were brave and had a blast!
