Summer Program, Week Two: Arts and Entertainment

6/16/2016

This Week's Essential Questions:
How has the family/community/world changed? How has it stayed the same? How might it change in the future?

During Week Two, students continued working on their summer newspaper by creating comics with Megan Little for the Arts/Entertainment section of their newspaper.

They also learned about the importance and power of the words we choose to use and how to understand our differences with Linda Ragsdale, Flowerpot Press author of ‘Words’ and ‘Not Opposites’ and founder/president of The Peace Dragon.  Linda also worked with students on drawing and decorating Peace Dragons.  Third grade students interviewed Linda for a feature in our summer newspaper.

For the 2nd-4th grade students at ENHE @ St. Ann's, the week culminated with an educational and entertaining field trip to the International Puppet Festival at the Downtown Nashville Public Library.  As they explored arts and entertainment this week and the essential questions (How has the world changed? How has it stayed the same?), they discussed whether puppet shows, jugglers, and comic strips are still entertaining art forms. Are videos, Xbox, and iPads the only vehicle for our children's entertainment these days?  Well, our research proved that 'old fashioned' entertainment is still a hit with ENHE children!
