To help achieve our mission to strengthen literacy of at-risk children in East Nashville, volunteers are needed! The 2020 summer program locations are Episcopal School of Nashville (419 Woodland St., 37206) and Ross Early Learning Center (601 McFerrin Ave., 37206).
Summer Program Volunteer Needs
Reading Buddies: Reading Buddies tutor students 1-on-1 daily from 11:30am-1:00pm. Buddies are needed Tuesday and Thursday and are asked to commit to at least one day but are encouraged to come both days. Buddies must attend a few hours of training and have a successful background check performed. No prior teaching or tutoring experience is required! Food set-up and break down: Volunteers are needed to prepare and set-up light dinner for weekly Family Events during the 6-week summer program. Some volunteers are needed at 3:00pm and 5:00pm to set-up and until 7:00pm to clean up. Field Trip Chaperones: Field trip chaperones are needed every Friday during the 6-week program. Chaperones must have a successful background check and commit to at least 2 of the 6 field trips. Activity Teachers: If you have a special talent or hobby you would like to teach, please let us know. Activities happen in the afternoon. Ideally, we look for Activity Teachers who would like to do a one-week project or can commit to a regular schedule of two days a week for the whole program. Clerical Needs
We are looking for volunteers who can commit approximately 5 hours a week to helping with ongoing clerical needs in the ENHE office. This includes filing, organizing books/learning materials, and copying. ENHE Leadership We also have opportunities for volunteering on our Development Committee, Finance Committee, Program Committee, Communications Committee and Community Partnership Committee for experienced individuals who are looking for leadership roles, as well as individuals who want to gain experience. Food set-up and break down: A team of three people is needed for the year. Duties include setting-up food table with lunch, snacks, drinks, etc. and cleaning up afterwards. We ask that volunteers attend a training and then serve for as many of the workshops as possible (at least 3). Teacher Assistants: Teacher Assistants can help with the student program for children or the adult family instruction program. Some help may be needed for childcare of smaller children. Working with the students requires a background check and a commitment of at least 3 workshops.
