2020 Summer Program Outcomes
Did we meet our outcome goals?
At least 90% of our students will gain or maintain sight word knowledge and/or letter recognition during our 2020 Summer Virtual Program.
Yes! 50 out of 51 (98%) students either maintained their current level or showed gains for sight word knowledge and letter recognition assessment.
At least 90% of families will report they are better able to help their children learn to read as a result of participating in East Nashville Hope Exchange.
Yes! 32 out of 40 families (80%) completed an end of program survey. Out of the 32 families who completed the survey, 100% reported they are better to help their children learn to read as a result of participating in East Nashville Hope Exchange 2020 Summer Virtual Program.
Every student will receive at least 20 books to take home to build their home libraries and encourage continued reading.
Yes! Every student took home at least one book each day of the 2020 Summer Virtual Program for a total of at least 30 books.
At least 70% of families will read and record (virtually) in a log regularly (at least 50% of the days of the program) with their children during our summer program.
Yes! 28 out of 40 families (70%) of families read with their children and recorded in a virtual log regularly (at least 50% of the days of the program) during the 2020 Virtual Summer Program.
****Due to Covid-19, ENHE designed a different model for the summer of 2020. ENHE provided a Virtual Learning model that consisted of the following components:
-comprehension lessons (with the weekly theme books)
-phonics lessons (with A-Z readers)
-writing activities
-sight words to practice
-Reading Challenges
-art activity with supplies needed
-outdoor activities (supplies each week to get students/families out to play)
-weekly snack
-teacher comprehension and phonics lessons
-art and engagement activities with local artists
-Family engagements
-Reading Challenge prizes for students
Other components of our Summer 2020 Virtual model consisted of providing feedback to parents about tips for helping students virtually, assessing students’ ability to read sight words and learning letter recognition for our younger learners. This feedback was done via phone call, using Zoom video calling, and responding to Facebook posts.
